On a typical blog, every post is automatically dated and archived.
Blog visitors like this because it allows them to know the most recent blog post the blogger has posted, or to look back on the oldest. This is good for bloggers too cause it helps them to stay organized in their work.
Categorization
Blogs are great because they have "categories." This way if someone is seeking information on something specific, they will know which category is most likely to have the information they are looking for, instead of having to search the entire blog/site.
Take for example...a blog about Jamaica...
This blog could have categories like
- Travel
- Food
- People
- Culture
If you are seeking information about what not to pack in your carry on when traveling to Jamaica, you would know clearly which category to check on this particular blog – the travelling category.
Tags
Tags on a blog help search engines know what the blog is about. Tags are
keywords and keyword phrases that people might type into search engines, that people might be looking for on a particular topic. Like

English Dogs, or
big English dogs.
